How it works

Cancellations go back on sale quietly. We're the ones watching.

People cancel constantly, and every cancelled night goes straight back into the Recreation.gov pool with no announcement. Whoever looks first gets it. We look every 30 seconds, and the email links straight to the site and the night.

Mt. Whitney, the Yosemite backcountry, the Enchantments, the Zion Narrows: when a permit holder cancels, the spots go back on Recreation.gov. We watch the trailheads and group size you pick. Lottery-only permits like Half Dome can't be watched, and we say so.

* Assumes Recreation.gov's standard six-month window: that campground's calendar showed no nights when we read it (closed for the season). The park page has the details.

Got the site? The camping checklist gets you packed, and every campground page ends with what to bring for that region.
