Campsite cancellations, as we catch them
We check every site at 34 popular California campgrounds on Recreation.gov, all day and all night, and log every booked night that comes back up. This page is that log.
In the last 30 days, 8,405 booked site-nights came back up at 22 of these 34 campgrounds (2,068 of them Friday or Saturday nights). Of the 6,906 that someone rebooked, at least half were gone within 138 minutes, and 2,006 within an hour. Most were close in: 6,572 were nights in the next two weeks.

Which nights come back, and how fast they go
Friday and Saturday nights: 2,068 came back up and 1,828 (88%) were rebooked, at least half of those within 97 minutes. Sunday to Thursday nights: 6,337 came back up and 5,078 (80%) were rebooked, at least half within 162 minutes.

From our own checks of every site at these campgrounds, lately about every 15 minutes for nights this month and next, less often further out. A site that opens and is rebooked between two checks isn't counted, so these are floors, and each time is a bound. We only log campgrounds on Recreation.gov here; alerts also cover state parks in 27 states, Canadian parks and wilderness permits.
